29 September 2004 BRENT CROSS MAKES SHOPPING EASIER FOR CUSTOMERS WITH DISABILITIES High Street shopping can present problems for people with limited mobility and/or sight. Going somewhere like Brent Cross can be one of the best ways for customers with disabilities to enjoy shopping in a comfortable and accessible environment. Brent Cross has a great selection of over 120 stores, shops, restaurants and cafes and getting into the Centre has never been easier, as all facilities are accessible to wheelchair users. Once inside the climate controlled malls, shopping is easy, as few stores have entrance doors to negotiate, while all levels are accessible by lift. There are also brightly coloured talking signs to help partially sighted shoppers find their way around Brent Cross. Shopmobility is another free service provided for people with disabilities, offering electric and manual wheelchairs as well as scooters. Customers need only book the day before they visit and they can also request a member of staff to accompany them whilst they shop. Most stores are more than willing to carry heavy or bulky items to customers' cars, or take them to Shopmobility for collection. Lifts transport shoppers between the Lower Mall, Upper Mall and the restaurant mezzanine which have disabled toilet facilities. Tom Nathan, Commercial Director of Brent Cross says, "We want to make shopping here a pleasure for every one of our visitors. We know there are always areas for improvement and that disability comes in many forms, so we constantly keep the facilities we offer for customers with disabilities under review. One of our latest additions is a hearing induction loop at the Information Desk and Reception to help hearing-impaired customers. We also have 'talking' signs around the centre to guide sight-impaired shoppers to Brent Cross' facilities, such as customer service, toilets and Shopmobility."
