4 January 2006 Thelondonpaper With over a week into the sales gone, Londoners are cramming in as much shopping time as possible. London's busiest shopping centre, Brent Cross, has experienced one of the best sales periods in its history - with record sales from many of its retailers. Tom Nathan, General Manager of Brent Cross Shopping Centre, comments: "With Christmas and new year falling on Mondays, instead of returning to work mid-week it appears many people have opted to extend their Christmas holiday until next Monday. Strong trading pre-Christmas and into the Boxing Day sales - when we took up to £800 a second at Brent Cross - has continued this week, with canny shoppers taking advantage of some heavy sales discounting of up to 75%. We've found electrical goods, jewellery and health and beauty items have been particular popular with our shoppers, but they are right to buy now as I think these will be short, sharp sales, before the stores introduce spring merchandise." |
