About

At Brent Cross we will participate in Purple Tuesday 2019, taking place on 12th November. Purple Tuesday is an international call to action focused on improving the customer experience for disabled people. It’s a milestone awareness moment for an issue that is relevant 365 days a year.

Please join us on this journey! We have some exciting activities planned here at Brent Cross:

  • North London Shopmobility will be at Brent Cross will be present, showcasing their equipment available for hire and speaking to the public about the services they offer.
  • Royal Society for Bind Children (RSBC) – 9-3pm will be in Centre Court and will be talking to the public about the work of RSBC, their visual impairment and offer members of the public a chance to sighted guide each other. Most people feel anxious about offering to help a blind person cross the road or onto public transport. It’s their hope that by sharing a few simple instructions with the public, more people will offer to help the next VI person they meet.
  • Mencap will be in centre court 9-2pm and will be talking about learning disability and or Autism and services they offer at Barnet Mencap.
  • Boost will be in the centre 9-3pm in Lower West Mall and will be helping support Purple Thursday as it’s a national day where they can raise awareness and make shopping more accessible for those disabled and focus on changing their experience no matter what their disability. This will be done by raising awareness of their organisation and/or getting interactive with our customers educating in some ways by the way of talking to them and giving them leaflets with their information.
  • Job Centre Plus (DWP) will be on site 9-8pm, Upper Balstrade DWP and will be promoting the access to work and Disability confident schemes they have in place.
  • Unitas, our charity partner will be on site 4-6pm, Mall 5 Ultimate Decadence space and will be engaging with shoppers including verbally promoting Unitas especially their offer for SEND young people – only handing out flyers, leaflets and vouchers to interested customers.

We will also have a fun obstacle course and other fun activities in centre court 12-6pm to raise awareness for Purple Tuesday.
